Evidence scattered across email
A matter’s documents arrive over months, from several people, in no order.
- Attachments without context
- Which contract version is this, and which matter does it belong to?
- Privileged material in inboxes
- Email is where sensitive documents are hardest to control and delete.
- No record of handling
- When a document is questioned, nobody can show who saw it and when.
How Sealio fits a legal practice
Law firms choose the legal pack at sign-up, which names cases “Matters”. Checklists are yours to build.
- Matters with a reference
- Each matter gets a reference number, stages you define and the people working on it.
- Internal notes stay internal
- Notes on a matter are visible only to your team.
- Access by role
- Five roles decide who can review, who can send requests and who can only read.
- A tamper-evident trail
- Entries cannot be edited or deleted and are linked with SHA-256 hashes. Admins can verify and export the log.
- Retention and deletion
- Keep files for a set period after a request closes, and delete a client permanently when asked.
- Firm-level separation
- Each firm’s data is separated in the database itself with row-level security.
Intake for a new matter
A worked example with made-up names. Every step is something Sealio does today.
A paralegal opens a matter, which Sealio numbers with the firm’s reference prefix, and sends the client an intake checklist: photo ID, signed retainer, the contract in dispute and related correspondence. The client uploads the contract without its schedules.
The paralegal returns it with “Pages are missing” and records, in an internal note on the matter that the client never sees, which schedule matters most. Months later, when the opposing side questions when a document was received, the audit log shows the upload time and every person who opened it.
Start from a checklist, then make it yours.
A dedicated legal checklist is not in the starter library yet. Start from the general one below or from blank; the sample above takes a few minutes to build.
Legal: questions and answers
Are internal notes visible to clients?
No. Notes on a matter are seen only by your team. Notes on a checklist item are a shared thread with the client.
Can I prove who accessed a document?
Yes. Every preview, download and decision is recorded in an append-only, hash-chained audit log that admins can export and verify.
Is there a ready-made legal checklist?
Not yet. Build your intake checklist in the checklist builder and reuse it. The legal pack already names cases “Matters”.
Your next client is the last item on the list.
Start with a ready-made checklist or build your own, invite a client, and watch the stamps land.
